Classic Dutch presents a panorama of classical music composed or performed in the Netherlands through the centuries. Much of the music in this series was selected from among the huge wealth of recordings made by Radio Netherlands’ Music Department. In each programme, presenter Hélène Michaud speaks with a guest conductor, composer or music performer.

Bassoonist Brian Pollard shares his memories of playing in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in the 1950’s. He tells presenter Hélène Michaud of his experiences of the concert hall, the performances and conductors like Otto Klemperer and Bruno Walter, among the greatest conductors of the 20th century. Michaud and Pollard listen to live recordings from the 2nd box of a series of CDs covering the orchestra in the 20th century and produced by Radio Netherlands’ Music Department.
