By the time Queen Beatrix celebrated her 60th birthday in 1998, she had been on the throne of the Netherlands for almost 20 years. By this time, she had acquired a great deal of respect both among the Dutch people and internationally. In comparison to her mother, Queen Juliana, she is generally seen as very businesslike—adopting a more managerial, highly disciplined approach to her job. This intelligent and responsible woman has contributed a great deal to the positive attitude that most Dutch people have towards the House of Orange.
