Mother Teresa (1910-1997), a canonised saint in the Roman Catholic Church, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, in recognition for her devotion to the poorest of the poor in the slums of Kolkata—”the Children of God”, as she called them. She became the centre of widespread international media attention, but after receiving the Nobel prize, she shunned the media. In 1980, Pete Myers was allowed the exceptional opportunity to spend a day with Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity.
