Despite being steadfast member states of the European Union, the relationship between the people of the Netherlands and its large and influential, eastern neighbour Germany, is strained. It is with this in mind that Radio Netherlands and Deutsche Welle have prepared two documentaries examining the long and ever-changing relationship between these two closely-related and yet philosophically different lands.
This week, Part 1: “Close Neighbours, Distant Friends, A common history”. Deutsche Welle’s Irene Quail peers through the centuries and looks at Holland’s Golden Age and traces Germany’s path from disparate states to a unified nation.
