
Perhaps no one embodies popular American music better than Irving Berlin (1888-1989), an untrained Jewish immigrant musician whose cornucopia of creations includes “God Bless America”, “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” and “White Christmas”. He wrote seven smash songs for the musical “Annie Get Your Gun” in one weekend. This programme is a tribute, marking Berlin’s 100th birthday.
