The story of Nemo and Ebyan: Two Somali refugee children in the Netherlands

In 1988, a civil war broke out in Somalia in the Horn of Africa. Nearly a million people had to flee the fighting. Some settled in other African countries, but many went to the United States or western Europe. Nearly 30,000 Somalis applied for asylum in the Netherlands. Many of them were children or teenagers who came without their parents or relatives. Nemo and Ebyan are two of these unaccompanied minors who are trying to pick up the pieces of their lives and build a new future for themselves.
