The popular Christmas carol “Silent Night” was first performed in the Saint Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, Austria on Christmas Eve 1818. This 1977 radio play reenacts a version of the events that led to the composition of the carol and its first performance.

“Silent Night” has since been translated into over 140 languages, and in 2011, it was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
