Tajikistan: Teetering on the brink

Faces of Tajikistan (© Veni/Flickr)

Eric Beauchemin visits the former Soviet republic of Tajikistan in Central Asia. It has been independent since 1991, but a civil war has devastated most of the new country’s infrastructure. On top of that, in 2000, the troubled country was hit by a severe drought. Children, in particular, have been badly affected.
