Radio drama is an old and illustrious art. In 1970, Radio Netherlands organised a radio drama competition to attract listeners in America. This play, “The Way out West”, was one of the winners. Rummaging through the archives over 20 years later, Jonathan Marks thought it deserved another hearing. “The Way out West” is about what happens when a dark-skinned man arrives in a conservative town. Especially the flashy way he dresses seems to upset people. So punishment has to be meted out.
