This special edition of our science program , Research File, is devoted to the achievements of Dutch 17th- century mathematician and physicist Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695). Huygens’ contribution to a new understanding of the world—his invention, for example, of the wave theory of light—has earned him a place among the highest ranks of 17th century science, along with Newton, Leibnitz, Keppler and Descartes.
