In this new millennium, Amsterdam, like so many cities around the world, has been facing the challenge of building for an expanding population, a changing economy and new technologies. In these two programmes, we hear how the Dutch capital is creating space for growth and change. One of our guests in this episode is software engineer and part-time miller Paul Rijkers who is battling to save one of Amsterdam’s oldest functioning windmills in an area where there are plans to build high-rise buildings. High rises block the wind. No wind and a windmill comes to a standstill…and falls apart.
