Nuclear fusion and fission

At the very latest after the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster in Ukraine in 1986, the broad public was thoroughly aware of the unsustainability and long-term dangers to life as a result of energy from nuclear fission. So at the time this programme was made, hopes were increasingly pinned on nuclear fusion, including cold fusion, as an alternative source of limitless energy.

In this edition of our weekly science programme, Doug Crawford speaks with Dutch scientists about the state of research in this area.
