In the modern age almost every facet of our lives is affected by the findings of science of psychology: business and politics, the work floor, education, traffic safety, fashion, design and the list goes on.

Yet some wonder whether the study of human consciousness is even a science at all. Psychology got its start in Germany in the 1880’s and took root in the Netherlands soon afterwards through the work of Gerard Heymans (1857-1930). This programme marks the centennial of the birth of psychology in the Netherlands and looks at present-day developments as well as the future.
