Since it was founded in Rotterdam in 1873, the Holland America Line (HAL) has transported about 7 million passengers to destinations around the world…from immigrants setting out for America in the early part of this century to the rich and famous circumnavigating the globe on luxury cruises today.
It has been a success story for the company, but not without its ups and downs. HAL played an important part in the lives of many people, including the family of the producer of this programme, which was broadcast to mark the line’s 125th birthday.
