
At the start of 1980’s, the Radio Netherlands’ English department led the transition from mainly entertainment shows to high-quality feature programmes. The focus also switched from being focused on the Netherlands to news and current affairs coverage that appealed to audiences outside Europe. Studio-read texts were gradually replaced by more investigative journalism, making use of a global team of freelance correspondents. In the late 1980’s, regional editions of Newsline for the Indian subcontinent and Africa were introduced too. Newsline had six editions a week. Here are some examples of the stories we covered.
