During the 1980’s, Pete Myers and his team hosted the weekly magazine Mainstream Asia. In this edition, the programme looks at the plight of the Vietnamese refugee community in the Netherlands. From the end of the Vietnam War to roughly 1995, it is estimated that some 800,000 Vietnamese fled their country. Six thousand were living in Holland at this time.

The programme also looks at the domestic passenger woes of Japan Airlines after a series of alarming mishaps, and there’s a report on the recent Third Asia-Pacific Population Conference which was held in Sri Lanka.
