Indian-born author Salman Rushdie was invited to write the Netherlands’ book-week gift in 2001. The theme was writers between two cultures. The book Rushdie wrote was called “Woede”. Later that year it was published in English under the title “Fury”.

In this unedited interview, Dheera Sujan spoke to Rushdie in Amsterdam about the book’s theme, how it fits into his overall output and the controversy over the choice of a foreigner as a writer of the book-week gift.
