Khaled and Shukria Manupal are both physicians. They had a prosperous life and a nice home with their children in Afghanistan, until the Soviet invasion in 1979 forced them to leave their country in 1992. After years of wandering as doctors in many countries in Africa, they eventually ended up as asylum seekers in the Netherlands, a country with which they had professional links. But nothing went smoothly for them.
