Dîner pensant

Food and philosophy: they seem like natural companions – long dinners, leading to longer discussions. But, in fact, food has seldom been the subject of philosophers. That’s possibly because women mainly produced food in back-kitchens, while men philosophised.

The Dutch International School for Philosophy is trying to remedy this situation. The School is committed to introducing people to philosophical discussion. And what better way to do so than over dinner, a so-called “dîner pensant”, which brings together art, poetry and philosophical musings.
