It was in the early 1980’s that the first announcement was made about the disease that has come to be known as AIDS. In the late 80’s, David Swatling was given a cassette tape for his birthday. Made by his friend Frits de Ridder, a Dutch photographer, it gave directions for “An Adult Trip to the Countryside”. This “found sound” provides the basis for a programme about AIDS and activism, radio- and photo-journalism and most of all friendship. Join David for a very personal edition of Aural Tapestry as he goes “Cycling with Frits”, Dutch photographer and AIDS activist Frits de Ridder.
