Emma McCune was a young British national, who went to Sudan as an international aid worker. She met and married the southern Sudanese rebel guerilla leader Riek Machar and was killed in Kenya. Her life and her unconventional and controversial approach to development aid have inspired film and discussion about the rights and wrongs of aid work. Was she mainly seeking adventure? truly an idealist?
