Emma McCune (1964-1993) was a young British national who went to Sudan as an international aid worker. She met and married the southern Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar. She was expecting her first child when she was killed by a minibus in Kenya.
Her life and her unconventional and controversial approach to development aid have inspired film and discussion about the rights and wrongs of aid work. Was she mainly seeking adventure? Or was she truly an idealist?
