The Diamond Five (© Jazz Profiles Blog Spot)

Producer David Swatling and host Hans Mantel delve into the Radio Netherlands’ jazz archives. In Part 9, they present recordings of The Diamond Five, performing such numbers as “Moanin” and “Andalusian Five”, some of them recorded at the legendary Sheherazade Jazz Club in Amsterdam. Founded by Cees Slinger (1929-2007) in 1957, The Diamond Five was the resident band of the club, where all visiting American jazz musicians came to play and jam when they were in Amsterdam.
