David Swatling finds himself attending the jazz funeral in New Orleans of the man he went there to interview: Milton Batiste, leader of the Dejan’s Olympia Brass Band. He was the one man perhaps most responsible for passing on the distinctive traditions and music of New Orleans’ brass bands to a new generation of young musicians.
