To mark the 60th birthday of India’s most famous composer and musician Ravi Shankar, Radio Netherlands devoted a special edition of its weekly Asia magazine programme Mainstream Asia to the great sitar artist. Ravi Shankar’s fame burst beyond the borders of Indian when the Beatles discovered him in the early 1960’s and George Harrison became one of his many pupils.
